Okay… so this newsletter is going to be All About NSYC (no, not N’SYNC— I know how confusing that can be! *sobs*). Bear with me, but WE ONLY HAVE 19 DAYS LEFT!! Bring on the cake!
Please. So much cake. Happy cake, sad cake, feeeeeeelings cake!
A few exciting announcements to kick us off… Did you know Never Saw You Coming has collected not one, but TWO **glowing** trade reviews already? Here’s an excerpt from my fave directly from the School Library Journal. Read the entire thing here!
And Kirkus called NSYC “A powerful coming-of-age story about growing in faith and self-awareness.” If interested, you can read the rest of what Kirkus had to say here.
On Monday, I put in my bulk order for the fairy wing temporary tattoos that will become the swag for any special preorders that come through my favorite local indie bookseller Nicolas Books. Have you ordered your copy yet? This is the BEST possible way to get a signed AND personalized copy of Never Saw You Coming and they will ship anywhere! I can’t wait to see all of your “Meg” tattoos!
The link to preorder from Nicolas is here. Swag is going to be limited, so make sure you get your orders in ASAP!
Speaking of Nicolas, I’m SO excited to let you all know where you can find me launch night! Well. Okay, I’ll technically be in my office. Actually, no. I’ll be in my husband’s office since I don’t really have one. BUT!! You can join me VIRTUALLY! Nicola’s Books is hosting me on September 7th at 7pm eastern! I’ll be in conversation with my very talented friend, NYT’s bestselling author of A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, Laura Taylor Namey, and we’re gonna be talking all things Meg and Micah, toxic purity culture, sex positivity in YA and writing those really hard stories! I can’t wait to celebrate this book and FINALLY TALK ABOUT IT.
The event is free, but you’ll want to save your spot. Click here to register!
Also! Did you know I had the chance to read my own author’s note (and dedication and the credits!) on the audiobook of Never Saw You Coming? Talk about AUTHOR DREAM COME TRUE. I’ve long been obsessed with audiobooks and this is something I never ever imagined for myself. I was able to step into an actual sound booth and read my own words to be listened to by all of you! If you follow me on social media, you know how much this particular author’s note has meant to me and my early readers. It started as a blog post YEARS ago, long before NSYC or even Meg was a blip on my creative radar. I was hurting and feeling powerless in the face of toxic church culture and the way it shames teenage girls and women, in particular. I can’t say I ever imagined this book or the reactions I’ve gotten (and all the top-secret, behind-the-scenes- things still yet to come I can’t talk about yet!), but I’m so proud and grateful to every single human who have and will come along on the journey with me. If you’d like the audio version of NSYC, it’s been recorded by Penguin/Random House Listening Library and you can get your copy here!
Okay, I think I’ve thrown enough at all of you! I cannot thank you all enough for your support and friendship during these banana pants times! Here’s a final lightening round of what I’m loving right now!
Reading: I have finally caved and started reading Kressley Cole’s ginormous supernatural (super spicy) romance series Immortals After Dark. I haven’t read about vampires since Edward Cullen was sparkling in the meadow, but I’m digging this expansive and sexy Lore universe.
Listening: It’s only August, but my brain is full on autumn, baby. That extends into my musical selections. Today I mellowed out with Ray LaMontagne, Taylor Swift and Vance Joy. I’m leaving you with a little Joy for your own autumn pleasure… Missing Piece by Vance Joy
Watching: Oh my word, I’ve fallen head over heels into a make up artist reality competitions with Glow Up on Netflix. I’m on season two and if you haven’t watched, you need to. It’s the kindness of GBBO with the glitz of Project Runway.
Eating: We’ve been stuffing our faces with “stove top s’mores” in the Hahn household every night! I’ve found gluten free, (presumed) dairy free, chocolate-covered graham crackers at our local Meijer grocery store and then we roast marshmallows over our stovetop for a quick and gooey treat. Are we gourmet fancy? Nope. Is it delicious? YUP. I highly recommend if you’re feeling those end-of-summer doldrums.
Be well and take care!
